Autonomy and Task-Level Control for Virtual Actors

چکیده

This paper shows how research in Computer Animation leads to virtual actors who will be able to possess their own animation. A high-level approach consists in specifying the animation in terms of tasks. The animator can only specify the broad outlines of a particular movement and the animation system fills in the details. Examples will be shown in grasping and walking. We also show the needs for modelling human behavior taking into account individualities. We emphasize the impact of behavioural animation by examples of autonomous virtual actors based on synthetic sensors like synthetic vision.

Virtual Humans ’ Behaviour : Individuals , Groups , and Crowds

In this paper, we first try to identify which mechanisms should be simulated in order to implement truly virtual humans or actors. We start from a structure linking perception, emotion, behavior, and action. Then, we emphasize the central concept of autonomy and introduce the concept of Levels of Autonomy. Finally, we propose a new abstraction for specification of behaviours in complex virtual ...

Digital Actors for Interactive Television

In this paper, we define the concept of digital actors and show their importance in the future interactive digital television and multimedia. We discuss the applications of these digital actors in the new multimedia services especially for training and education. We summarize the main techniques to create and control these digital actors and emphasize the importance to develop new tools for the...

The World of Virtual Actors

The long-term objective of our research is the visualization of the simulation of the behavior of realistic human beings, called synthetic actors, in a given environment, interactively decided by the animator. The ultimate reason for developing realistic-looking synthetic actors is to be able to use them in virtually any scene that recreates the real world. However, a virtual scene-beautiful th...
